WESTMILL FARM MUSIC FESTIVAL 2010, Sat Aug 14

We've confirmed that we will play this intimate festival near Ware, Hertfordshire on Saturday 14 August, 2010. We've asked to go on at twilight, as it's getting dark so we expect to start between 8.30pm and 9pm . As the festival has a campsite, we plan to camp overnight on the Saturday. It's very reasonably priced so we hope to see you there. Crossing fingers for some nice weather. You don't have to camp as Saturday evening only tickets are available.

We've come to an arrangement with the promoter to offer a 5% discount for Red Box fans. Simply click on the tickets link below and enter westmillredbox into the Discount Codes box at bottom left:

'PLENTY' RELEASE

We're pleased to announce that we have signed a deal for the new album 'Plenty' with Cherry Red Records. The album is now fully mastered and is expected to be released early this autumn. Release date coming soon!

We've come full circle with this deal – Cherry Red released our first ever single 'Chenko' half a lifetime ago. We like the people there and very much hope that together we can make some impact with 'Plenty'.

We've finished 'More' which actually involved a fair amount of new recording. We're very happy with it and hope that those of you who liked it at the Playback Party will enjoy the completed version even 'more'.

'PLENTY' RELEASE UPDATE

We're making good progress in negotiating the contract with our prospective label and hope to have news of a release date soon.

We're just tidying up a song called, 'More', which proved a conversation piece at the recent Playback Party (for more on 'More' see Blog).

The artwork is very nearly completed and once we've mixed 'More' with Matt Butler in Cheltenham, we'll be ready to complete the mastering.

The finishing tape is in sight!

'MOTIVE' RE-RELEASE UPDATE

Cherry Red Records have applied to Warners for a license to reissue the band's second album 'Motive'. The ball is now firmly in Warner Bros' court. Your emails encouraging this plan can be sent to the following links:

LIVING ROOM & GARDEN TOUR

In a bid to find interesting and intimate ways of presenting the music, we thought a summer tour of people's living rooms and gardens might be fun. We will play either plugged or unplugged depending on the situation. We will take care of all the technical details and will keep costs and fuss to a minimum.

If you're planning a party or have an interesting location, living room or garden, please get in touch via our Contact page.

ALBUM PLAYBACK PARTY - WE HAVE A DATE

We have decided on Saturday 13 March, in Cheltenham, England.

We think an afternoon start going into early evening would give people time to get to and from the event.

We propose to play the album, revisiting particular tracks for those who would like to hear them, meet you all and play a short semi-plugged set in the main studio.

We need you to email us your application stating whether you are 1 or 1 + 1. We will limit each application to two people. We do ask that you only book a place if you really know you can and will come. As space is limited, absentees would not only be sorely missed but may prevent others from attending.

Click here for contact details. (Sorry this isn't a link yet).

We have noted those of you who have already expressed an interest, but you will still need to confirm that you would like to come on this specific date.

All those attending will be given a couple of exclusive mixes before they leave the studio.

ALBUM PLAYBACK PARTY

A bout of flu has held up our plans somewhat, a number of us contracting this nasty bug over Christmas. One of the symptoms is loss-of-voice and it is unlikely I will be singing in the next couple of weeks.

As a consequence we have had to re-map our recording schedule which now runs late into January.

The next available studio dates, and therefore candidates for the PB Party, are the  last Saturday in February and the first three Saturdays in March. We are actually playing a warm-up show on the 28th Feb, so that leaves the 6th, 13th, and 20th  of  March as possible dates. This will still be pre-release.

Apologies for the inconvenience and we will post the confirmed date here and in emails to members of the Circle asap.

A Happy New Year to you all

STC

INTERNSHIP/PART-TIME HELP

We are looking for a motivated, intelligent and articulate music lover who is very web-savvy.

We need someone to help us develop and run aspects of Red Box relating to the web in a resourceful and creative way: Myspace, Facebook, Twitter etc, as well as the band’s own website and Fan Club. They would be closely involved in developing and executing the marketing strategy for the band’s third album which is close to completion, and is at the artwork stage.

In return we offer some basic expenses and a wealth of professional experience in writing, recording and marketing heartfelt music. There would be opportunities to assist the band during recording sessions, live performances, radio sessions etc.You would be in a creative and committed environment with people who are happy to pass on what they know. In the marketing aspects you would be under the guidance of a former major label head of department of 25 years standing.

If you would like to know more, or you know someone who may be interested and fits the bill, please get in touch.

New Album Playback Party:

If, like us, you are impatient for the release of ‘Plenty’ (see below), those of you who can may like to join us for a Playback Party where you can hear the album before it is released and share tasty drinks and snacks with Red Box and the production team. The band also hope to perform a small unplugged set later in the evening.

We will play the album twice in its’ entirety, direct from the master, through the very best speaker systems in three rooms:

Room 1, the main studio, will be a comfy zone where you can sit or lie back and soak it up.

In Room 2 you will be able to hear the record and chat to the band.

Room 3, the Control Room, will for reasons of size, be on a limited numbers basis (and strictly no food or drinks!), but will afford a truly ‘full frequency range’ listening experience on the big speakers.

For those who want to hear specific songs again, headphones will be available.

Then we will play a short set of songs in the intimate setting of the main studio – it has a grand piano - including an older song or two.

We need to know how many of you can join us so we can plan properly:

Venue: Recording Studio in central-ish England.
Date: To be decided, but early feedback suggests mid-January.
Time: We suggest late afternoon into early evening.
Cost: Nothing.

And is a week-end evening better (Fri-Sun)?

‘PLENTY’ Release Update:

We sincerely apologise for keeping you waiting for the new album.
You have all been so loyal and patient.
It really does exist – honest!

Since we finished mixing the new record, and began to play it around, a number of new people have come into our Circle – people who make us stronger both in creative and business terms - and it has taken time to find them and get their input in launching the record. We are determined to do everything we can to make this the best it can be, and to give the album a chance. Some of these individuals are related to the technical and financial business of CD manufacture (and possibly vinyl), artwork, promotion and both digital and physical distribution; deals that must all be put in place before release. And Ty, our new band member and an emerging asset, is settling in musically.

Meanwhile, to make use of the time I took the band back into the studio to re-record a song we felt, on reflection had under achieved. The track was not so much ‘In Detention’ as ‘Asked Back For A Re-sit’.

We are almost there.

We TOLD you it would be finished one day…..

‘PLENTY’ RELEASE
We have been offered digital distribution for our brand new album ‘Plenty’ by Universal Records.
We are finalising a strategy for distributing the physical release (the CD), and it will carry our own ‘label’. We will post details here just as soon as we can.

SONG SAMPLES
Soon you will be able to listen to samples of songs from ‘Plenty’. We very much hope you like what you hear, and apologise for the wait. We are, and have always been, extremely committed to the idea that every song on a Red Box record should be from our top drawer. The very best we can be. And we are ruthless. Absolutely No Fillers. So in selecting any of the 15 or 16 songs that actually made it to the final bell of the final round, that bloodied yet unbowed make up our ‘Plenty’ era, rest assured: we have attended the detail that ‘simplicity’ requires of us. Though the scenery may change, we walk the old way….

Enjoy.

VIDEOS
We are working on this right now, and in addition to the better-known videos we will upload the original ‘Train’ video with the new version of the song just recorded by us. We are calling this ‘20:09 Train’. We also have some archive footage of the band live in Spain in ’85 playing ‘Chenko’ and the same song from ‘Wogan’ circa 87\8.
We recently filmed the band in the studio tracking ‘Plenty’ and this is currently being edited.

INTERVIEWS
We plan to do more radio sessions\interviews over the next few months. Watch here for transmission times. We will post these on the site, along with past soundbites.

SHOWS
We are continuing to play small warm-up shows in an intimate little country pub, and have worked in an old song or three. We are finding our feet and enjoying ourselves. It is good to be out of the studio.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

1. If anybody out there has an interesting gig for us this summer –a garden party, small festival or just a cracking location please get in touch – (no party too small!). We are playing for costs only right now and will listen to all ideas…

2. Research continues into finding a unique setting for our first ‘bigger’ show, and again we welcome your suggestions.

3. We are looking for a cool place to rehearse our eventual show. Somewhere we can leave the gear set up, where noise is not an issue (though we don’t rehearse loudly) and the cost is reasonable. Is there a fan in the London area with such a place who doesn’t mind hearing the same song over and over…. and over. Get in touch if you are Mr or Mrs Right.

4. Keep us on the radar by requesting RB songs at Radio Stations. You wouldn’t believe the clout this represents when we later approach them to feature the new album and have us on the show.

5. Join our ‘Red Circle’ and receive regular news and updates.

6. Tell people about us and this site.

If you've been trying to contact us in the last few weeks, we had a few technical difficulties and haven't been receving our emails. It's all sorted now so please try again!

We are rehearsing and playing a handful of small shows to prepare for the release of the 'Plenty' material.

Plans for a RED BOX 'Event':

We are planning to stage an Event with enough lead-in time to allow those of you who may have a long trip to come if you wish, and to make it worthwhile for you. Location, Duration and exact Nature are all under discussion, but we hope to offer you an 'access all areas immersion experience' with and around the band and the music... Feel free to give us your view.
